In May 2015, the SocioFoto Group launched the project "Du monde de par che nous" (roughly translated “the people from our neighbourhood”). While wanting to demonstrate the importance of preserving the identity of the Beaubassin East rural community, the project objective is to celebrate, through a series of photo-documentaries, today’s heroes, heroines, businesses and local events that contribute to social, cultural, economic and heritage aspects of Beaubassin East. The challenge of each photo documentary is to express, in images, a message about the people and businesses being showcased.
Up to thirty photograph documentaries will be developed in a three year period and will be shown in three exhibits at the historic church in Grand-Barachois. The first exhibit will take place in September 2016 and will focus exclusively on people and businesses from the Boudreau-West and Grand-Barachois neighborhoods. The 2017 exhibit will focus on people and businesses from Saint-André-LeBlanc and Botsford; and the third exhibit in 2018 will showcase the Upper-Aboujagane and Cormier-Village neighborhoods. Each exhibit will consist of approximately ten photo documentaries of eight printed black and white photos and a short accompanying text. An audio-visual presentation with additional photographs will complement at exhibitions to present the non-printed photos taken during photoshoots.
The SocioFoto Group hopes to present some or all of the photos documentaries from this project at the World Acadian Congress being held in the New Brunswick Acadian region in 2019.
