The Farm of Noël Léger

After growing up on his father’s farm, Noel Leger started a cow farm in 1985

 

In the year 2000 he sold all his cows and with his brother Freddy, purchased 25 female sheeps (ewes).  The herd gradually increased to 240 females, and 11 pure breed males.  They breed Rideau Arcott and Ile de France sheep.

 

The sheeps are sheered twice a year in early summer and early fall and the fleeces are sold for wool.  Lambing occurs approximately twice a year, around January and July.  The male lambs are kept for 4 to 6 months and sold when they reach around 110lbs.

 

Noel’s son Mathieu is also now involved in the farm.  The goal is to increase the herd to 300 ewes in the next two years.  Mathieu hopes that his son Cedric will take over once he grows up. 

 

 

La ferme de Noël Léger

Ayant grandi sur la ferme de son père, Noël Léger a débuté une ferme bovine an 1985.

 

En 2000, il a vendu toutes ses vaches et, avec son frère Freddy, a acheté 25 brebis. Le troupeau a graduellement augmenté à 240 femelles et 11 mâles, principalement de race Rideau Arcott et Ile de France.

 

La tonte des moutons a lieu deux fois par année au début de l'été et au début de l'automne et les toisons sont vendues pour la laine. L'agnelage a lieu environ deux fois par an, vers janvier et juillet. Les agneaux mâles sont gardés pendant quatre à six mois et vendus quand ils atteignent environ 110lbs.

 

Le fils de Noël, Mathieu, est également impliqué dans la ferme. L'objectif est d'augmenter le cheptel à 300 brebis dans les deux prochaines années. Mathieu espère que son fils Cédric prendra un jour le relais.
